In short

The part of a New York bathroom renovation you never see matters most: the waterproofing under the tile, because a leak here becomes the neighbor’s ceiling. MCG Corp opens the floor, installs a continuous membrane, and coordinates any plumbing changes through licensed trades and the building.

Bathroom renovation with MCG Corp

Small bathrooms are the norm in New York, and they reward careful planning: a recessed medicine cabinet, a niche in the shower wall, a wall-hung vanity that makes the floor read larger. We build those details in rather than adding them later.

If the bathroom is staying where it is, a renovation is usually straightforward. If you want to move it, or add a second one, the building’s wet-over-dry rules decide what is possible, and we check that first.

What this covers

  • Full bathroom gut renovations
  • Waterproofing membranes and new shower pans
  • Tub-to-shower conversions and walk-in showers
  • Tile floors and walls, niches and benches
  • Vanities, toilets, fixtures and lighting
  • Plumbing changes by licensed master plumbers

What New York adds to the job

Waterproofing you can trust

A continuous membrane under the floor and up the shower walls is what protects the apartment below. It is not the place to save money, and we do not.

Old pipes behind old walls

Prewar buildings often hide galvanized or cast-iron lines. When the wall is open we show you what is there and what it would cost to replace while it is accessible.

Board and building rules

Bathrooms that move or expand are subject to the same wet-over-dry limits as kitchens. Renovations in place rarely are.

How a project runs

  1. Walkthrough and estimate

Billy visits, measures and asks what you want the space to do. You receive an itemized written estimate, not a ballpark.

  2. Approvals and planning

Board package, landlord consent and any DOB filing are prepared and submitted. Materials with long lead times are ordered.

  3. Construction

Work runs inside your building’s hours with common areas protected and the site cleaned daily. You get updates without having to chase them.

  4. Inspections and walkthrough

Required inspections are passed, the punch list is closed with you, and the building receives its close-out paperwork.

Super reliable, professional, superb judgement, honest assessments and charges, exquisite work, easy to contact and communicate with. They completely renovated one bathroom and finished another. I couldn't be more pleased. I only wish I found them earlier.

Bathroom renovation questions

Do I need a permit to renovate my bathroom in NYC?

Replacing fixtures and tile without moving plumbing generally does not need a DOB filing. Moving or adding fixtures, which changes the plumbing, generally does, and that work is done and filed by a licensed master plumber. Your building will want to approve the scope either way.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A full bathroom gut is usually a few weeks of work once approvals are in place. Tile work and inspections set the pace; we schedule them back to back.

Can you renovate a bathroom while we live in the apartment?

Yes, if there is a second bathroom or you can arrange access to one. We seal the work area and clean daily.
