Kitchens, bathrooms, co-op and condo apartments and whole homes in Manhattan and the other boroughs, renovated by one licensed contractor who stays on the job from the first walkthrough to the last punch-list item.

Home renovation in NYC means planning the work around the building as much as the room: board approval in a co-op or condo, a DOB filing when plumbing, gas or walls change, licensed trades for plumbing and electrical, and work hours set by the building. MCG Corp handles all of it under one contract.

Home renovation with MCG Corp
Most of our work is residential: a kitchen in a prewar co-op, two bathrooms in a condo, a full apartment taken back to the studs, a brownstone floor by floor. The common thread is New York itself. Freight elevators get booked, neighbors get notice, and the paperwork has to be right before the first wall comes down.
Billy Loka prices every job himself after seeing the space, and he is the person you call during the work. Specialist trades come in under our contract, so you have one schedule and one point of contact.
What this covers
- Kitchen and bathroom renovations
- Full and gut apartment renovations
- Condo and co-op renovations with board packages
- Townhouse and brownstone renovations
- Basement finishing and home additions
- Flooring, plaster repair, painting and millwork
What New York adds to the job
Board approval first
In a co-op or condo, nothing starts until the board signs the alteration agreement. We prepare the scope, schedule and insurance certificates the managing agent asks for.
Permits where the scope needs them
Moving plumbing or gas, changing walls or upgrading electrical service usually needs a DOB filing through a registered architect or engineer, and the plumbing and electrical permits are pulled by licensed master trades.
Living in the home during work
Many clients stay in the apartment while we work. We seal off the work area, protect floors and common areas, and clean up every day.
How a project runs
-
Walkthrough and estimate
Billy visits, measures and asks what you want the space to do. You receive an itemized written estimate, not a ballpark.
-
Approvals and planning
Board package, landlord consent and any DOB filing are prepared and submitted. Materials with long lead times are ordered.
-
Construction
Work runs inside your building’s hours with common areas protected and the site cleaned daily. You get updates without having to chase them.
-
Inspections and walkthrough
Required inspections are passed, the punch list is closed with you, and the building receives its close-out paperwork.
What clients wrote on Google
5.0 from 97 Google reviewsBilly and his team did excellent work. They kept us apprised of how the work was going and asked questions of us regularly. Reasonable price. I would strongly recommend them and will be using them again if further projects arise.
Billy and team are absolutely incredible. They helped us transform our apartment from something generic into something spectacular, assembling an all-star team for electrical work, stonework, painting, and tiling. They dealt diligently and patiently with our stringent condo board and all the paperwork required.
Great work! It's a rare contractor who not only does excellent work but is exceptionally easy to work with and communicates at all stages of the job. When Billy says he and his team will be there at nine they are.
Home renovation questions
Do I need a permit to renovate my home in NYC?
It depends on the scope. Painting, flooring and swapping fixtures in place are usually fine without a DOB filing. Moving plumbing or gas lines, removing or adding walls and changing electrical service generally require one, filed by a licensed architect or engineer, with permits pulled by licensed plumbers and electricians. We tell you which applies at the estimate.
Can I stay in my apartment during the renovation?
Often, yes. Clients have lived in the back of the apartment while we rebuilt the kitchen. A full gut renovation is the exception: with no working kitchen or bathroom it is easier to move out for those weeks.
How do I check that a contractor is licensed in NYC?
Home improvement contractors working on residential property in New York City need a license from the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. You can look up any license number on the DCWP website. Ours is 2095495-DCA.
